I would like to start by introducing myself. I am a 27 year veteran of the IT industry. I have held just about every role in an IT organization. I did not start out in IT. I started out building training simulators for DoD and I learned some important lessons from those experiences. I have formulated these into a few technology fundamentals:
- IT should not be a distraction from accomplishing a mission goal
- IT should know who you are, what you need to do and what you are likely to do and finally what you are authorized to do
- It’s always about the mission or business; It’s not about IT service models, infrastructure, data centers, applications… These are tools to achieve a mission or business Outcome.
- IT should be simple, intuitive, and focused on the user domain
- IT should be like a hammer… It should always work when needed, no matter what.
These fundamentals have served me well in my career across DoD, Civil, and Commercial. They keep me focused on constant improvement of the things, the mission, and business, people need to do wondrous and great things. I hope you find this blog educational and entertaining. I plan to use this as a forum to document my encounters on my cloud journey as I work with international customers in leveraging this technology to improve their business and missions. Please provide feedback, engage and be respectful and I hope we all can be better for it.
Regards,
John
